Emperor Liang’s Precious Repentance Ceremony
Date: 8/22/2025
The Emperor Liang Repentance is a popular and widespread prayer service in Chinese Buddhism during the lunar 7th month. It originated from Buddhist devotee Emperor Wu of Liang dynasty (502-557) whose queen was reborn as a snake due to her bad deeds in her previous life. In order to cleanse the karma of the queen, the compassionate Emperor consulted with Zen Masters Bao Zhi and other monks who then compiled ten chapters of sutra for repentance on behalf of the queen. After the repenting ceremony was performed, the queen was successfully released from the suffering animal realm into the heaven realm. The merit of repentance is therefore inconceivable and beyond ordinary comprehension. Repentance service benefits both the living and the deceased. BAOC offers such an opportunity this August for devotees to partake in the service and to sponsor blessing tablets (living, Red) and memorial (deceased, yellow) tablets. Please contact BAOC for any questions. BAOC wishing all health, prosperity and good fortune.
